Recipients of the 2001 Amicus Awards, determined by a vote of the
campus student body last semester, were John Rudy, English,
and Michael Holsapple, criminal justice.
The new Trustees’ Teaching Awards were presented to six IUK faculty
members at the fall convocation: Ann Cameron, English; Raghu
Gompa, mathematics; Kathy Parkison, economics; David
Rink, marketing; Barbara Sehr, mathematics; and Margo
Sorgman, education. Recipients of the Virgil Hunt Distinguished
Service Awards were awarded posthumously to Dilip Pendse,
who directed the MBA program before his death this summer, and Gerry
Stroman, director of the University Division and campus affirmative
action officer.
Richard Vaden, emeritus professor of management, received
Indiana’s highest honor, the Sagamore of the Wabash, this summer
for his contributions to higher education and support of students.
Among Vaden’s contributions has been his role in guiding the IUK
Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) ,award-winning business students
who won the regional SIFE competition in St. Louis this year.
Sharon Calhoon, psychology, is the new director of the
Center for Teaching Excellence. She has been on the faculty since
1989.
Marcia Gillette, chemistry, served as director of the 54th
annual Indiana Academy of Science Talent Research, Oct. 26-27, on
the Kokomo campus. High school students from throughout Indiana,
along with the sponsoring science teachers, were involved in the
event which included a tour of the campus’ new sciences facility.
