Evans
|
Andrew Evans, chemistry, has been awarded a Johnson & Johnson
Focused Giving Award, by the Johnson & Johnson Corporate Office
of Science and Technology, New Brunswick, N.J. The program was established
in 1980 to stimulate exploration in medical science, and funds are
intended to support basic biomedical research in key universities,
colleges and research institutions around the world. Setting new
directions in science and technology is the cornerstone of the Focused
Giving concept. Evans’ discipline area is organic; his research
group is focused on the exploration and development of reactive
intermediates for total synthesis of stereochemically complex and
biologically significant natural products. The group is also interested
in the development of new transition metal-catalyzed reactions.
The current award provides Evans with research funds to develop
the temporary silicon-tethered ring-closing metathesis reactions
as a conceptually new, cross-coupling method for target directed
synthesis.
