 | Join the IUB Department of Astronomy for a star party, in collaboration with the Stonebelt Stargazers and the Indiana Astronomical Society, featuring the newly refurbished Kir
kwood Observatory’s refracting telescope, as well as many additional amateur telescopes brought to campus for the occasion. The rededication of Kirkwood Observatory will be earlier in the day, at 4 p.m., and an open house from 1:30- 4 p.m. will feature th
e solar telescope, an historical display of the century-old building and rooftop telescopes at Swain Hall West.
The department is also celebrating the 90th birthday of IU astronomer Frank Edmundson, who began his 10th decade on planet Earth in August. He was the IU Home Pages’ “poster boy” in the Dec. 7, 2001, edition: http://www.astro.indiana.edu/astrofest/astrofest.html
