| Tomorrow’s “Explore IUPUI” will offer faculty and staff and their families, alumni, prospective students and community residents hundreds of activities meant to inspire and to entertain.
“Our reputation is about to soar in a day of learning and discovery, as IUPUI opens its doors to the community and invites the public to experience the campus,” said Cheryl Sullivan, vice chancellor for external affairs at IUPUI, about the Oct. 12 all-cam
pus event.
“For alumni, the day’s activities shine a spotlight on how dramatically IUPUI has changed—with new buildings open and others under construction,” Sullivan added. “For faculty and staff, ‘Explore IUPUI’ promotes achievements among our colleagues. And for s
tudents—both current and prospective—there are dynamic opportunities to discover the vibrant, challenging programs that make up the IUPUI landscape.”
More than a year’s preparation went into the event, which represented a collaboration of IUPUI’s schools, centers, programs and offices. “Explore IUPUI” was built on the traditions and strengths of several long-standing campus celebrations, including Camp
us Day, the Graduate Open House, the Jaguars Family FunFest, the School of Dentistry’s Dental Day and the School of Liberal Arts’ Dean’s Day.
“The event gives all our schools and units a chance to show our guests what is unique about their programs, and do it with activities that are fun, entertaining, interactive and emphasize how much joy there is to learning,” said Kelly Young, IUPUI’s direc
tor of community outreach.
Activities are geared for visitors of all ages, ranging from flower arranging to a “Beat the Geeks” battle between guests and IUPUI’s technology aces.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see robots and a Frankenstein exhibit, explore an M.B.A. online program or the emerging field of informatics, or take a glance through a solar telescope.
The Jaguars Family FunFest is geared to attract families with children.
For alumni, a hospitality tent will be pitched and a series of events are scheduled by numerous schools to help alums get reacquainted with their alma mater.
For prospective students, activities and resources traditionally available at Campus Day will still be on hand, along with even broader opportunities to learn about what each school has to offer.
Students will be able to explore choices in majors, course options and opportunities for graduate degree programs.
For sports fans, the IUPUI Jaguars will face Mid-Continent Conference rivals in both men’s soccer and women’s volleyball.
