IPFW’s “Bridge to the Future,” the new pedestrian bridge spanning Crescent Avenue, was formally dedicated Sept. 16. Construction began a year ago. Now that the span is finished, visitors can truly drive through the Fort Wayne campus, not just by it.
At the ceremony, IPFW Chancellor Michael Wartell announced that the largest donation in the campus’ history—$3 million—has been made by Don Willis, founder and chairman of Fourth Wave of Fort Wayne. The money will be divided equally into funding for scholarships, for the establishment of a new endowed chair in entrepreneurship and for unrestricted use. Wartell also announced that the bridge has been named the Willis Family Bridge.
The dedication closed with Wartell inviting 20 preschool children from the IPFW Child Care Center, along with Don and his wife, Doris Willis, to lead a “ceremonial walk to the future.”
