Archaeopteryx lithographica

Holland
| Scott Edwards, associate professor of biology and curator of genetic resources at the Burke Museum at the University of Washington in Seattle, will present the James P. Holland Memorial Lecture Monday, Oct. 13, at 4 p.m. in Myers Hall on the IU Bloomington campus.
His topic will be "From Archaeopteryx to Modern Birds: A DNA Trail." A reception in the atrium of Jordan Hall will follow the lecture.
In December, Edwards will be joining the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University, where he will be serving on the faculty and as curator of ornithology at the Museum of Comparative Zoology.
The Holland lecture series was initiated in fall 2000 by the Office of the Vice President for Student Development and Diversity, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the IUB Department of Biology, and honors the memory of a biologist who served on the IUB faculty for many years and worked to address the needs of minority students on the campus. The series honors Holland’s legacy and is intended to bring awareness and support of diversity in the life sciences.
