Work Photographer's corner Friday flashback
It's a virtual party
Photos by Chris Meyer

Dr. Edith B. Schuman (seated) and (left to right) her husband, Bloomington attorney Sylvan Tackitt; medical sciences development director Ruth Sanders, and IUB Chancellor Sharon Brehm were among the celebrants at the virtual birthday party for the IU School of Medicine and its regional medical education centers Sept. 23. The four are pictured at the Bloomington Medical Sciences Regional Center where they watched and took part in a real-time video conference birthday party. Schuman, in her 10th decade, is one of the oldest known IU School of Medicine alumna.

Talmage Bosin, director of the Medical Sciences Program on the Bloomington campus, told celebrants of the history of the program as the videoconference unfolded on the screen at the front of the room.

Dr. Edith B. Schuman (standing at right) talked about her experiences as a medical student at the centennial birthday celebration.

Schuman, Tackitt and Bosin take care of the candle adorning the centennial cake.

Sherry Shelton (left), graduate secretary at the Bloomington Medical Sciences Program, and Margaret Zuckschwerdt, administrative assistant, served up cake and punch at Jordan Hall. A giant cake on the Indianapolis Medical Center campus served up some 700 centennial slices.
