The installation ceremony for Sharon
Brehm as chancellor of the IU Bloomington campus is scheduled for
4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the IU Auditorium in Bloomington. A
reception in the lobby of the auditorium will follow. Preceding the
ceremony, The Chancellor's Festival, featuring free food and entertainment
from the cultures and traditions of the campus is scheduled in Dunn
Meadow from noon to 2 p.m.
A symposium, The Chancellor and the Mystics, is scheduled
Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m. in Ballantine Hall 013 at IUB. IUB panelists
scheduled are David Brakke (moderator), Department of Religious
Studies; Dyan Elliott, Department of History; Karma Lochrie, Department
of English; Jonathan L. Sheehan, Department of History; Mary Jo
Weaver, Department of Religious Studies. Music by members of the
Early Music Institute also is on the symposium program.
To commemorate the chancellor’s installation, a special display
in the Lincoln Room of IUB’s Lilly Library will run from Oct. 1-13.
This display will include Rules for Dominican Nuns (1455),
which originally belonged to the Convent of St. Catherine in Nürnberg;
a late 15th-century Dutch Book of Hours that belonged to
Margareta van Cleyburch; Nicolas Jarry's Office de la Vierge
Marie, written for the Duchesse de Montbazon (1651); the process
for canonization of Saint Rose of Lima; and devotional writings
of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.
