Brehm's installation ceremony, other activities next month

Brehm

The installation ceremony for Sharon Brehm as chancellor of the IU Bloomington campus is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the IU Auditorium in Bloomington. A reception in the lobby of the auditorium will follow. Preceding the ceremony, The Chancellor's Festival, featuring free food and entertainment from the cultures and traditions of the campus is scheduled in Dunn Meadow from noon to 2 p.m.

A symposium, The Chancellor and the Mystics, is scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m. in Ballantine Hall 013 at IUB. IUB panelists scheduled are David Brakke (moderator), Department of Religious Studies; Dyan Elliott, Department of History; Karma Lochrie, Department of English; Jonathan L. Sheehan, Department of History; Mary Jo Weaver, Department of Religious Studies. Music by members of the Early Music Institute also is on the symposium program.

To commemorate the chancellor’s installation, a special display in the Lincoln Room of IUB’s Lilly Library will run from Oct. 1-13. This display will include Rules for Dominican Nuns (1455), which originally belonged to the Convent of St. Catherine in Nürnberg; a late 15th-century Dutch Book of Hours that belonged to Margareta van Cleyburch; Nicolas Jarry's Office de la Vierge Marie, written for the Duchesse de Montbazon (1651); the process for canonization of Saint Rose of Lima; and devotional writings of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.
