Hoosiers gathered last week on the Circle in Indianapolis to welcome home the 62-member Indiana Task Force 1, which had been deployed to New York City for search-and-rescue operations. Among returnees were two IUSM emergency medicine physicians.

Reservists will have jobs when they return
Those now preparing for possible military service need not think about how service to their country affects their careers. Federal law requires employers to extend the same or an equivalent job to troops returning from a call-up, depending on the length of service.

IU extends range of domestic-partner benefits
IU has joined more than150 colleges and universities nationwide, including five other Big Ten universities, in offering domestic-partner benefits to their employees. The Trustees of IU unanimously approved domestic-partner benefits for same-sex partners of employees and students at their September meeting.

IUSM physicians Chris Strachan and Stephanee Evers returned home
Sept. 20 with the other 61 members of Indiana Task Force 1, the
elite Indianapolis-area search-and-rescue team dispatched to New
York City to assist with emergency operations.

In his
annual State of the University address this week, IU President
Myles Brand said that the fate of IU and Indiana are so intertwined
that neither can attain its full potential without the other.IU's
obligations:"to educate the state's citizens, to push forward
the frontiers of knowledge, and to contribute to the state's
economic prosperity and enhance the quality of life for its
citizens."
