Students in Bloomington gathered at Showalter Fountain to hear remarks from IU President Myles Brand and IU Bloomington Chancellor Sharon Brehm. The three students awarded 9/11 scholarships from monies raised through the IU Student Foundation to memorialize those with ties to IU who were victims of the attacks, were introduced. The ceremony included music by the IU School of Music and the African American Arts Institute.

Faculty, staff and students gathered at a peace pole, inscribed with “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in several languages. The sounding of a gong marked the moments planes crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania one year ago. A major initiative of the day was a joint effort of IPFW and NBC-affiliate Channel 33, to present a live interactive program, America Remembers: A Local Perspective. The telecast originated from the ballroom of the Walb Student Union.

Hope Oaks was one of many townspeople joining the campus community at IU Kokomo for a solemn commemoration.
