| The Least of My Brothers, an online module or short course on the ethics of research with human subjects through a dramatization of the PHS Syphilis Study at Tuskegee (often referred to as the Tuskegee Syphilis Study) is now available for review. Using the module, one or more facilitators may work with a group of learners who read and respond to fictionalized scenes of the study and supporting resources available on the Web.
Content for the module was developed by Kenneth Pimple and Julia Pedroni of the Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions at IU Bloomington in collaboration with WisdomTools, Inc, which also provided the technical assistance. Funding for the project came from the National Institutes of Health and the Poynter Center.
Data from a trial run of the module completed last autumn found that the module was effective for learners from a wide variety of backgrounds and could be used effectively either alone or as part of a larger course or workshop.
