Catch the operatic wave
Vizioli to meet Mozart in Bloomington
(Editor’s note: Here are some opera fast facts to enhance your musical experience. All MAC operas include projected English “supertitles” above the stage, even when the opera is sung in English (all but one of this season’s productions will be presented in English). Seraglio means “harem” or “palace” and the “g” is silent, “ser-al-yo.” A pre-opera dinner is scheduled on the MAC lawn Sept. 26-27; details are available at the MAC box office, 812-855-7433. Seating is limited.)

Expect an extraordinary onstage spectacle when guest stage director Stefano Vizioli brings Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio to the stage of IU Bloomington’s Musical Arts Center (MAC) later this month. Vizioli’s production, including simulated ocean waves, will transport the audience to an exotic, new land filled with mayhem and delight. The all-new production of Mozart’s romantic comedy will be performed on Fridays and Saturdays, Sept. 26-27 and Oct. 3-4, with an impressive combination of distinguished IU faculty and guest artists. Imre Palló will conduct the IU Concert Orchestra, and the new set design is by Robert O’Hearn. All performances are at 8 p.m. and are preceded by free Opera Informances at 7 p.m. on the MAC’s mezzanine level. The production will be sung in English.
