| The IU Division of Labor Studies, in cooperation with the Indiana State AFL-CIO Central Indiana Labor Council, will present its second annual Labor Law Conference Saturday, Oct. 4, at the University Place Conference Center on the IUPUI campus.
There is a 10 percent registration discount for those registering by Friday, Aug. 22, or for groups of five or more attendees. Registration deadline is Oct. 1.
Cost is $125 and includes materials, breakfast, lunch and parking fees. Those wishing to attend should check with their union representative regarding tuition assistance.
The conference will bring together workers, union members, union leadership, labor-side attorneys, union field staff and labor studies academics from the industrial and service sectors as well as the building trades.
Attorney Robert Schwartz, author of The Legal Rights of Union Stewards, How To Win Past Practice Grievances, and The FMLA Handbook, will be a special guest and presenter at the event.
Workplace injuries, leave policies and worker accommodations under Worker's Compensation, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act will be concentrations. Teaching faculty for the day will be labor-side attorneys, union field staff and agency staff who will present three workshops designed to highlight worker rights covered through these laws.
