Project Advance encouraging IUB staff to complete a degree

IU Bloomington Continuing Studies has announced a new initiative--Project Advance--to encourage IUB staff to complete a degree program.

Developed in consultation with IUB staff unions, Project Advance will allow staff who work full time to complete an associate of arts degree in general studies in three years, plus one semester.

Two courses will be offered for IU staff each semester on Monday and Wednesday evenings, beginning at 5:45 p.m., scheduled for the convenience of those whose workday ends at 5 p.m. Fall semester courses will include Elementary Composition (W-131) and American History I (H-105).

When feasible, instructors will plan assignments together so there will be a link between the two courses offered each semester. By taking classes together, IU staff will have the opportunity to study together, form friendships and provide support to help each other succeed.

Academic advising and support services will be provided by the General Studies Degree Program office and the Returning Student Center in Owen Hall. Special workshops will be offered on topics such as study skills for returning students, time management and test-taking skills to help Project Advance students in their studies.

For information on the program, contact IU Bloomington Continuing Studies at 812-855-4991 or visit this Web site:
