IU technology publication wins top honors in national competition

A publication produced by the writers and artists at IU’s University Information Technology Services has received the highest honors from a national association for technical communication.

Competing against entries from corporations, businesses, higher education, the government and individuals, the booklet, Pervasive Technology Labs at Indiana University, was awarded "Best of Show" in the 31st annual Technical Art, Publications and Online Communication Competition hosted by the Society for Technical Communication (STC), Chicago chapter. Judges reserve the honor for publications that express the best example of technical communication principles executed flawlessly at the highest professional levels of achievement. The achievement sent the publication on to the international competition hosted by the STC.

Project director, writer and editor was Julie Wernert; graphic designer and project art director was Maria Morris, and John McDermott was the photographer.

The booklet was produced in 2002 to formally introduce the Pervasive Technology Labs, which were created in part through a $30-million grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc., to serve as a catalyst for economic development in the state. The labs concentrate their research efforts on emerging and high-end technologies that have the potential for commercialization.
