| The Sycamore Foundation, joined by the IU Center on Philanthropy and a coalition of Indiana foundations and businesses recognized six Indiana nonprofit organizations statewide with the fourth annual Indiana Achievement Awards on May 29.
Each organization received $10,000. The awards are given in three categories—innovation, impact and sustainability—on two budget levets, above (large) and below (small) $1 million.
The winners were:
Boys and Girls Club of Greater Goshen, (Sustainability-Large)
for its expansion into new communities and for its new leadership
and policiets that have transformed the club from a recreational
facility into a true youth development organization.
LifeTime Resources, Inc., Dillsboro (Impact-Large)
for its Catch-A-Ride retional public transportation system that
serves five counties in southeastern Indiana. The service makes
it easier for rural residents to get to jobs and doctor’s appointments.
Middle Way House, Bloomington (Innovation-Large)
for its business enterprise initiatives. The domestic violence shelter
develops business enterprises that deliver services to women and
generates revenue for the organization.
Prevent Blindness Indiana (PBI), Indianapolis (Impact-Small)
for its focus on preserving sight in Indiana. PBI trains volunteers
in every county in the state to do free vision screening, make treatment
referrals and help find financial solutions for eye care.
South Bend Civic Theatre (Sustainability-Small) for
its strategic planning and steady growth over time. The community
theater program has increased the number and variety of productions
and diversified its patron and volunteer base.
Teachers’ Treasures Inc., Indianapolis (Innovation-Small)
for its efforts to get teachers in urban schools the classroom supplies
they need by enlisting a host of community partners to create an
exchange source for businesses and individuals to donate materials
to educators and students in disadvantaged schools
