New York teachers connect with those in Indy

Nearly 50 teachers from three Indianapolis public schools listened intently as a Harlem schoolteacher talked about the effect laptops have had on their students and school.

Through video conferencing, Alisa Berger, project director for the laptop program at Mott Hall School in New York, gave the Indianapolis teachers a preview of the strengths and potential pitfalls they could face with their own five-year project of giving every eighth-grade student a laptop computer.

“It really generated a lot of excitement,” said Julie Bohenkamp, director of instructional technology at IUPUI and director of the laptop program. “Our teachers had a lot of questions about what to foresee regarding the implementation of this project. This will really change their entire school environment.”
