| The Indiana Health Industry Conference and Innovation Showcase is scheduled Tuesday, June 4, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. Admission is $35 in advance and $50 at the door. Dr. Stanley Crooke, founder, chairman and CEO of ISIS Pharmaceuticals Inc., is the keynote speaker at the luncheon. ISIS is a leader in the development of a new class of human therapeutic compounds. These new compounds are based on oligonucleotides and related molecules and can be used to target diseases and health conditions not addressable by conventional therapeutic approaches. He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of California at San Diego.
The conference begins at 9 a.m. with presentations by Dr. Leighton Read, an officer with Alloy Ventures; Michael Weinstein, an analyst with JP Morgan; and Michael Kluger, senior principal with Merrill Lynch Healthventures Fund. Dr. Samuel Nussbaum, executive vice president and chief medical officer with Anthem, Inc., will present “Assessing the Value of Medical Technology.” The afternoon session will feature Michael Dunn, dean of the IU School of Informatics, moderating a session on “Health System Change” (See CyberStar story, A6 about IU informatics’ most recent award). George Wodicka, professor and director of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University will moderate a session on “Health Product Discovery and Development.” Health industry and biotechnology displays will be in the exhibit hall during the day-long conference.
