Carlos Pomalaza-Ráez, electrical engineering, is one of
only 12 college professors in the country to be awarded a Fulbright
grant from Finland and one of only two of the 12 who has been awarded
the grant for the entire academic year. The grant, for electronics,
information and telecommunication technology at the University of
Oulu, is a joint effort with Nokia, a Finnish corporation, which
is also the world’s largest mobile communications company. He was
a visiting professor at the University of Oulu in 1997-98. Desiderio
Vasquez, physics, also has received a Fulbright grant to do
research at Catholic University of Lima, Peru, for the spring 2004
semester. Pomalaza-Ráez and Vasquez are natives of Peru.
