Elton Ridley, Lynton Caldwell, Charles Bonser and Barbara Fischler were among honorees at the 14th annual Spirit of Philanthropy event hosted by the Center on Philanthropy, the IU Foundation and the IUPUI Office of External Affairs last month.

The four received Spirit of Philanthropy Awards for their many contributions in their fields of endeavor and for forging continuing ties between IUPUI and the community at large.

Ridley served as the interim director of the Division of Allied Health Sciences (which became the School of Allied Health Sciences in 1991); Caldwell, nominated by the IU Press, is a prolific writer and speaker on environmental policy issues and served as a professor of political science and of public and environmental affairs on the Bloomington campus. He also is a recent recipient of the IU Distinguished Service Award; Charles Bonser is the founding dean of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, a position held for 17 years, beginning in 1972; and Barbara Fischler served as director of the IUPUI University Library from 1982-1995.
