| Linda Templeton began her position as director of admissions at IU Northwest by spending her first two days on the job at IU Southeast and IUPUI. There she got an up-close and personal look at two other IU campuses.
“They differ in layout and the number of students they serve, but both provide the quality of programs and services expected of Indiana University,” said Templeton, who started work Feb. 11.
She comes to IU Northwest after 25 years at Marshall University in Huntington, W. Va., where she held various administrative positions, including associate director of admissions and director of academic advising. She received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Marshall University, with emphases in marketing, economics and management. She then completed a doctoral degree in higher education administration in a cooperative doctoral program between Marshall University and West Virginia University. She also worked on the College of Business faculty at Marshall for six years, teaching in the areas of marketing, economics, market research, consumer behavior and advertising.
“I plan to carry on the good work of my predecessors while applying my own ideas and management style,” said Templeton, who already has implemented several. For example, on April 10, the Office of Admissions hosted an open house for adult students that ran simultaneously with the high school student open house.
Templeton also has set new admission goals, which include attracting a larger number of adult and quality students while implementing IU Northwest’s “Shared Vision” in all of the admissions processes.
“The administration, faculty and staff have been very willing to help me in my transition,” she said of her move to Gary. “I appreciate the collaborative atmosphere.”
