• In less than four years, the Indiana 21st Century Research and Technology Fund has made 58 awards to projects offering hope for medical breakthroughs, manufacturing efficiencies and technological advances; fund grants have led to the creation of 15 start-up companies. Dr. George Stookey, an IU Distinguished Professor emeritus at the School of Dentistry, developed a fluorescent light that helps to detect tooth cavities at very early stages and started a company to commercialize the technology. Mike Fritsch of Fort Wayne started the Mainz Group LLC to commercialize technology developed by his former employer, Logikos Inc., that would allow hospital workers to instantly access medical information.
