Teaching and Learning Center

David Fulton (left), chancellor of IU East, and Lowell Robinson of Visteon Automotive Systems are pictured at the unveiling of a plaque recognizing contributions of Visteon, as well as David and Diane Parridy, to the Teaching and Learning Center on the Richmond campus.

Angie Abrams Rains, instructional technologist with the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) at IU East, gives some computer lessons to faculty members Mary Fell (foreground), associate professor of English, and Mary Blakefield (in checkered jacket), assistant professor of biology.

Adjunct faculty gather to learn what resources are available to them through the TLC and the entire campus.

The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) at Indiana University East began operation in July of 2000. The center serves as a resource for faculty and staff development on the campus.

Center director M. J. Henry said, “The Teaching and Learning Center has been well received. We’ve received a lot of good feedback from faculty that are interested in working more with the available media.”

Recently, the Library and the Teaching and Learning Center teamed up to offer an Enrichment Extravaganza to the campus community, introducing the new resources.

The TLC also has been given the responsibility for coordinating distributive education opportunities on campus. Staff are currently working on a distributed education handbook to further assist faculty in creating new courses or moving existing courses to an alternate delivery method.

Henry said the center staff has many ideas in the works. This summer, there will be a two-week Tech Camp for campus faculty and staff to help them learn the basics of a variety of software.

Resources available through the center are growing daily: six computers, a scanner, a laser printer, a color printer, dual VCR for tape editing, camcorder, digital camera, cameras and tripods, laptop computer, books on educational topics and education division curriculum resource center materials.
