| Jo Burgess, director of the Wylie House Museum, knits beneath an image of Andrew Wylie, IU’s first president, on a recent wintry day. The Bloomington home of IU’s first presidential family is open to the public, and volunteer garden day is scheduled Saturday, April 12 (rain date April 20). Wylie came to Bloomington from Pennsylvania in 1829 as the first president of Indiana College. The family home was built in 1835; Wylie and his wife would eventually have 12 children.
