Groundbreaking for new library expected this year

To be surrounded by trees along a grassy area, IU Southeast’s new library will enhance further the aesthetic beauty for which the campus is recognized. Groundbreaking for the $15.7 million, 75,000-square-foot building is expected later this year.

Thanks to the efforts of local state legislators, especially Rep. William Cochran, (D-72 Dist.), $21.4 million was approved for the project, which also includes plans to renovate the existing University Center to centralize student service offices.

“This new library will become the centerpiece of our campus,” said Chancellor F.C. Richardson in announcing the building plans. “The creation of a new Student Services Center will allow us to centralize operations and serve students more efficiently.”

Features of the new library:
•Increased space
•Adaptive technology and improved accessibility
•Upgraded technology
•Enhanced archives

Architects for the project are MSKTD & Associates, in association with Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott. Groundbreaking for the library is expected to occur this year.
