Richardson (center) talks to retired IU Southeast Chancellors Leon Rand, 1988-1996 (far left), and Edwin Crooks, 1966-1986, after the dedication ceremony for the Life Sciences Building expansion and renovation. The School of Natural Sciences and the Division of Nursing are housed in this facility.
| The expansion of the Life Sciences Building more than doubled the size of the original building and impacted the Southeast campus by raising the element of sophistication of the teaching environment. There are undergraduate research labs, new computer labs, a controlled growth chamber and upgraded laboratories.
For the Division of Nursing, a new advanced Health Assessments Lab enables students to learn how to apply classroom instruction in a more realistic setting. The new lab houses five patient-care units equipped with electronic beds to give students a true sense of working in a hospital.
“I’m excited and pleased about the opportunities the facility provides us. This will help us maintain the quality program we desire,” said Lillian Yeager, interim dean of the campus’ nursing program.
“The new facility adds significantly to all of the programs of the School of Natural Sciences, and we are excited about the additional space,” said Joe Renwick, dean of the school.
