Today… •1 in 2 workers is a woman. •3 in 5 workers at or below minimum wage are women. •4 in 5 mothers of school-age children must work for pay. •3 in 10 working women work evenings, weekends or some combination. •2 in 5 working women are managers or professionals. •1 in 5 working women has an administrative support job. •1 in 2 people who work more than one job is a woman. •1 in 2 working women provides half or more of her household income. •7 in 10 married working mothers work more than 40 hours a week.
Since the 1970s… The number of women in the paid labor force has increased by 112 percent. •The percentage of children with mothers in the paid workforce has increased 28 percent. •The combined work hours for dual-earner couples with children rose 10 hours a week. •The wage gap has closed 15 cents.
The Wage Gap… •Working families lose $200 billion of income annually due to the wage gap. •At the current rate of change, working women will not achieve equality in pay until after the year 2050. •Over a lifetime of work, the average 25-year-old woman working full time until age 65 will earn $523,000 less than the average working man.
