William DeMott, biology, has received a $220,000 National Science Foundation grant to conduct a three-year collaborative study on the ecology of food chains in fresh water lakes. DeMott and his collaborator, Alan Tessier of Michigan State’s Kellogg Biological Station, will be studying daphniids, microscopic crustaceans which form a key link between algae and fish in food chains in lakes all over the world.
