IU has record-level spring semester enrollment

IU Northwest posted the largest percentage gains in credit hours and enrollment

A total of 93,664 students enrolled for spring semester classes on eight Indiana University campuses.

The figure represents a record enrollment for spring semester, an increase of 3.3 percent or 2,994 students over the record levels of the 2002 spring semester. Credit hours also established a spring semester record of 1,036,142.5, an increase of 3.6 percent over spring semester 2002.

Among the individual IU campuses, Bloomington, IUPUI, IPFW and Southeast all established spring semester records for both student head count and credit hours. IU South Bend set a spring semester record for credit hours.

“The continued growth of enrollments on our campuses is excellent news for both our university and our state. The students we are educating today will play vital roles in building Indiana’s economic future,” said Gerald Bepko, IU’s interim president.

The largest percentage gains in both enrollment and credit hours were recorded by IU Northwest. Spring semester enrollment at IUN grew by 546 students to 4,930, an increase of 12.5 percent over spring 2002, while credit hours jumped to 44,790, an increase of 11.9 percent.

Enrollment and credit hour counts at the other IU campuses, and changes from spring semester 2002 levels are:

Bloomington enrollment 36,281, up 2.3 percent, credit hours 475,964.5, up 1.9 percent; IUPUI enrollment 28,120, up 4.2 percent, credit hours 290,053, up 5 percent; East enrollment 2,265, down 2.9 percent, credit hours 21,461, down 0.4 percent; Fort Wayne enrollment 6,121, up 5.2 percent, credit hours, 58,611, up 5.6 percent; Kokomo enrollment 2,576, up 3.2 percent, credit hours 23,976, up 5.3 percent; South Bend enrollment 7,047, up 2 percent, credit hours, 63,418, up 4.4 percent; Southeast enrollment 6,324, up 1.1 percent, credit hours 57,869, up 2.2 percent.
