IU opened its doors to 12 students in 1820. Since that time, the university has grown from one small campus into eight campuses and has continued to expand higher education and research opportunities across Indiana and throughout the world.
Founders Day is an opportunity for the university community
to honor its founders, commemorate its historical legacy,
celebrate the university’s 185th birthday and to acknowledge
its outstanding faculty.
