‘Quest Atlantis’ — an adventure in educational technology

The Center for Research on Learning and Technology on the Indiana University Bloomington campus hosts a number of high-quality research projects designed to help teachers integrate technology into education settings. One such project, or better yet, call it an adventure, is “Quest Atlantis,” an after-school program that immerses youth in educational tasks as part of an online game that allows exploration into various 3-D worlds. Kids, who participate after school from places such places as Boys and Girls Clubs, log a lot of quality computer time with the game, but more importantly, in using more advanced levels, they work with community issues raised in the challenges posed.
