The governor visited laboratories at the IU Northwest Center for
Medical Education and met with students and faculty, including Nancy
Mangini (center), associate professor of anatomy and cell biology,
whose research focuses on identifying eye disorders caused by impaired
calcium metabolism. Widely recognized for its innovative medical
curriculum, the Northwest Center offers a clinical approach to the
instruction of basic medical sciences by exposing freshman and sophomore
students to cases that reflect real-life situations and issues facing
physicians.

No gubernatorial visit to a medical teaching facility is complete
without a peek through an electronic microscope.
