What’s it like to be a nurse in the 21st century? For one thing, the public holds the profession in high esteem. In December, Gallup’s annual survey on honesty and ethics of various professions found nurses at the top of the list, followed by other medical professionals such as doctors, veterinarians, pharmacists and dentists. The Indiana State Nurses Association celebrated its centennial in 2003, and a book that chronicles the history of the profession in Indiana was published last year.
