Charlie Nelms (at podium), IU vice president for student development
and diversity, accepted a check for $1,800 from the membership of
the Northside Exchange Club of Bloomington for the Jimmy Ross Endowment
Fund for Diversity Initiative earlier this month. The club earmarked
the money from an August fish fry for the fund, named in the memory
of one of its members who died last year. Ross headed the IU Office
of Scholarship and Financial Aid in Bloomington from 1973 to 1988,
and was involved in the creation of the national student loan program.

Hey, that sounds like 76 trombones instead of just one (above).
Members of the IU Marching Hundred gave a musical demonstration
to the kids at Campus Children’s Center, a day-care program for
children of IU faculty, staff and students. Last semester, the children
became interested in the band, which routinely conducted marching
drills in a field close to the center playground. David Woodley
(below), athletic director of the Marching Hundred, introduced his
musicians.
