| In July 1999, IU Southeast launched a three-year multi-million dollar capital campaign—“Investing In Our Communities Through Academic Excellence”—with an envisioned goal of $7 million.
Early fund-raising success prompted the Board of Advisors to raise the goal to $10 million: $6 million for endowed scholarships; $2 million for faculty and staff development; and $2 million for technological enhancements.
Approximately $8.5 million has been raised to date.
Notable gifts of the campaign include:
• $500,000 from New Albany business executive Richard Stem to establish endowed scholarships for arts and music;
• $3.1 million from the Paul Ogle Foundation, which includes $2.1 million in endowed scholarships and $500,000 from the Harrison County Community Foundation, plus matching funds from the Lilly Foundation to create $1.25 million in endowed scholarships.
• Establishment of the Lee Hamilton Scholars Program with a $1 million goal. The Paul Ogle Foundation has already issued a challenge grant of $500,000;
• Largest single alumni gift of $1 million from Carlton and Sue Sanders to establish an endowed faculty chair in E-business;
• $500,000 contribution by Bloomington philanthropist William Cook for IU Southeast’s Center for Mentoring and Student Outreach program;
• $340,000 in nursing scholarships from gifts received by Louisville area hospitals; and
• More than $800,000 in contributions from faculty and staff, which includes a gift of more than $500,000 from a professor emeritus.
Co-chairing the campaign are attorney Bob Lanum and Jack Hillerich, president of Hillerich & Bradsby Co.
