| If you want statistical information about Allen County or other areas of northeastern Indiana, the Community Research Institute (CRI) is the place to go.
Tom Guthrie is director of the institute and associate professor in the Division of Public and Environmental Affairs at IPFW, with assistance from research associate Valerie Richardson.
The institute is one of IPFW’s commitments to the growth and development of northeastern Indiana. CRI initiates analysis of the northeastern Indiana economy and related social issues, and also responds to requests from community and business leaders, and others.
Information is available from CRI on area employment, unemployment, income, labor, population, construction data and wages. Comparisons with other geographic areas are also available.
Reports available from CRI include a “Profile of Allen County,” which looks at the demographics of the county, especially changes in the population during the past 40 years. “The Performance Report” examines the economy of northeastern Indiana during the past 30 years, the major forces shaping that performance and some thoughts on appropriate economic policy to enhance future performance. “The Expenditure Report” is a comparison of the amount of expenditures by the state of Indiana in northeastern Indiana to the amount of payments from this area to the state for the years 1994-1996.
CRI analyzes census data and school data from the region and provides data to Fort Wayne’s News-Sentinel in support of a weekly column on local economic indicators. It also maintains a local stock market index, which is compared daily to the Dow Jones Industrial Average, and a list of major employers in Allen County.
