Sam Donaldson-'A view from Washington'

The IU Center on Congress hosted veteran television newsman Sam Donaldson Sept. 18 on the IUB campus. Donaldson presented “A View From Washington” that evening at Whittenberger Auditorium. The topic was one he knows well; as a 40-year veteran of ABC News, he’s interviewed five presidents (Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter and Ford) but told his audience he wasn’t going to predict the outcome of the upcoming November election. “I haven’t a clue who’s going to win,” he said. “This year is a tactical election, m eaning that the so-called great issues aren’t there. It’s going to be won by the guy we like the most.” Donaldson was invited to Bloomington by former U.S. Rep. Lee Hamilton, who directs the IU Center on Congress. Donaldson met with students informally in the atrium of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (at left) before his evening lecture. His autobiography, Hold On, Mr. President, was a best-seller.
