IU scores in ‘U.S. News’ annual ranking

Two programs at Indiana University Bloomington and two at IUPUI were recognized by U.S. News and World Report as “Programs that really work” in the magazine’s annual ranking of the nation’s top colleges and universities. The magazine also rated the undergraduate program at the Kelley School of Business among the top 10 in the nation. The magazine recognized IU Bloomington for the quality of its educational experience for first-year students, which was also cited last year by Time magazine in naming IUB its College of the Year among research universities. IUB also was cited for its successful efforts to encourage writing as an important part of the learning process at all levels and in all disciplines.

IUPUI was recognized for its success in promoting learning communities—building connections among fellow students and between students and professors—and for its efforts to promote service learning—the use of volunteering in the community as an educational strategy.

Among undergraduate schools of business at both public and private institutions, IUB’s Kelley School of Business was rated 10th. The Kelley School placed second only to the University of Michigan among undergraduate schools of business in the Big Ten.

Overall, the magazine ranked IU Bloomington in a tie for 28th among public national research universities, the same ranking the university held last year.

IU regional campuses received recognition in two areas. IU Northwest was rated among the most diverse master’s level universities in the Midwest, and IPFW was rated as having the lowest average student debt load among Midwest master’s level universities.
