| After a successful subscription and pre-order campaign that saw the IU Auditorium on the Bloomington campus process more orders than ever before, as well as break the $1 million ticket sales mark, all remaining tickets went on sale Sept. 9 for all 2001-2002 performances.
The season is an exciting mix of 19 incredible events ranging from magician David Copperfield and music legend Willie Nelson to Broadway hits like RENT, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret and Ragtime. The season also features such family-oriented events as the National Acrobats of Taiwan and Holiday Spectacular on Ice. George Carlin is sold out. Other shows have had strong subscription and pre-order sales, which began last April. As a result, remaining seats are limited to certain performances.
Bryan Rives, general manager of IU Auditorium, said one of the reasons the auditorium is able to bring these shows to Bloomington is the record number of corporate sponsors involved in the 2001-2002 Season, including the three season sponsors, Union Planters Bank, area radio station B97 and Insight Communications.
Three international sensations will be making a return to IU Auditorium due to customer requests: David Copperfield, Peter, Paul & Mary, and RENT, which was the most requested show for this year. This season also marks the first time the popular IU School of Music’s annual Chimes of Christmas concert is available as part of the auditorium’s season.
