IU Press joins Studs Terkel as ‘Voice of the Heartland’

The IU Press has won the Voice of the Heartland award from the Great Lakes Booksellers Association (GLBA).

The award will be presented at the organization’s annual trade show in Indianapolis Thursday (Sept. 20). The Voice of the Heartland, which has been given only once before—to Studs Terkel in 1998—recognizes an author, publisher or other member of the book industry for a contribution to literature of the region. IU author Scott Sanders received the GLBA award in the category of general nonfiction in 1996 for Writing from the Center.

The IU Press is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and will be featured on a segment of Public Broadcasting System affiliate WFYI-TV’s Across Indiana series in a program to be released to stations Sept. 28. Check local listing for PBS affiliate air times.
