| The Savannah Center at IU Northwest opened on Feb. 8, and along with the campus’ new Child Care Center, will be formally dedicated in October.
IU Northwest tells its students that the new Savannah Center “is a place for you.” Indeed, it is.
As the new hub for campus life, the Savannah Center was designed with students in mind. The 48,825 square-foot building makes ample use of natural light to create inviting, dynamic spaces for student activities and community events.
Savannah Center has quickly become a popular student-oriented gathering place for the campus and the community. Its facilities include a gym and fitness center, competitive athletic areas for several IU Northwest Red Hawks sports teams, a student technology center, an office of student life, lounge areas and an atrium, a bookstore, an art gallery, a food service and a women’s resource center.
The Child Care Center, operational since last November, was created in response to a demonstrated need for a new facility that centers around developmentally appropriate practices and creates stronger support for children and families.
Within the Child Care Center’s 5,100 square feet are specially designed classrooms and a variety of activities for children that promote independence, problem-solving and self-motivation. The center also provides for on-site training and observation by IU Northwest students enrolled in education, psychology, nursing, parent education and other related courses.
Like the Savannah Center, the Child Care Center provides services for students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community.
