Buckeyes can be Hoosiers

Beginning this fall, residents of Darke and Preble counties in Ohio will be able to enroll at IU East at in-state tuition rates.

The IU Board of Trustees approved the request from the local campus to provide this opportunity to the residents of the two counties, which are contiguous to Wayne County in Indiana.

“IU East is committed to providing educational opportunities to all citizens in the economic region served by Richmond, including those who live in Ohio and who may work, shop and pay taxes in Indiana,” said IU East Chancellor David Fulton.

“The economic development of our region depends on increasing the educational achievement of all of its citizens. We can no longer deny such opportunity to people just because they happen to live on the other side of an arbitrary line which divides the region.”

Last fall, 44 IU East students resided in the two counties. The number is expected to triple over the coming year and possibly rise substantially in future years.
