Work Photographer's corner Friday flashback
‘Vacation ’05’ at SoFA Gallery next month

The IU School of Fine Arts (SoFA) Gallery on the Bloomington campus will open Vacation ’05, a show of new works by invited guests and faculty of the School of Fine Arts. Many of the works will be experimental, unfinished and in transition, giving visitors a chance to see what the artists have been up to over the summer. The show will include paintings by Caleb Weintraub and Andrew Winship, large-scale sculpture by Mike Swol, photographs by Osamu James Nakagawa, Jeffrey Wolin and Yara Cluver, photographic rubbings by Jeff Nilan, textiles by Anne Nickolson among many others. There will be installation pieces, jewelry, graphic design work and much more.

The show opens Friday, Sept 2, with an opening reception beginning at 7 p.m., and runs through Sept. 30. A lecture by Malcolm Mobutu Smith, a ceramicist and member of the fine arts faculty, is scheduled at Fine Arts 015 at 6 p.m. on Sept. 2. Smith’s show, Rigmarole: Object/Image will run simultaneously with Vacation ’05 and Out of the Ordinary: The Collection of John Beck. Beck, a Bloomington resident who died earlier this year, collected many photographs, paintings, prints and objects during the past 35 years.

The SoFA Gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from noon to 4 p.m.
