TechnologyIU to receive $4.4 million from NSF for national Internet-based science tool 'Social phishing' presentation Sept. 8
Filippo Menczer
Available via videoconference in IT 414 on the IUPUI campus The presentation by Filippo Menczer will describe one type of context-aware phishing attack that exploits social network information harvested from the Web. Discussion will include the results of an experiment showing that people are more than four times more likely to become victims if they are solicited by someone who appears to be known to them. It is easy to find out who knows whom from information publicly available on the Web and then spoof the sender of an E-mail to induce a victim to release personal account information. The experiment to be discussed was jointly undertaken by Menczer, Tom Jagatic, Nate Johnson and Markus Jakobsson.
