IU senior Bryan Allen explains the elementary rules
of tennis to the young participants in a National Youth Sports Program
taking place at the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation
this summer in Bloomington. For many children, the experience is a
first impression of what a university campus can offer. Friday mornings,
the children hear lectures by both IU coaches and athletes.

Nothing like a dip in the HPER pool to cool off from camp activities on the Bloomington campus. The National Youth Sports Program has a staff of 40 and serves approximately 200 children who arrive on campus each morning from Monroe County and surrounding areas.

When it rains, it pours in the state of Indiana,
compelling camp counselors to improvise with indoor activities.
In this case, wet weather in Bloomington drew campers onto the basketball
court for that perennial favorite: the duck-duck-goose game. Read

Come on in, the water’s fine! In Belize, that is.
Thirteen IU East students who are studying with biologist Neil Sabine
of the Richmond campus, have just returned from a trip to the Rio
Bravo Conservation and Management Area, which supports a rich and
exotic combination of forest plants and animals and includes several
Mayan archaeological sites. Students were able to explore the rain
forest, observe unfamiliar birds, participate in village activities,
survey Mayan ruins and yes, scuba dive. Read more:
