Henry H. H. Remak, professor emeritus of Germanic studies, of comparative literature, and of West European studies, was honored by the American Comparative Literature Association with its Lifetime Achievement Award at the organization’s annual meeting at California State University San Marcos in April. The ACLA is the principal learned society in the U.S. for scholars whose work involves several literatures and cultures. Remak, who has been an IU faculty member since 1946 and has served in various administrative capacities, will be teaching a 19th-century Euro-American literature class through the Honors College on the Bloomington campus this fall; students will be reading Flaubert, Tolstoy, Hardy, Fontane and Chopin in a course examining love and relationships.
