What’s cool—pick of the week
Try: http://www.ima-art.org/cycles/index.html

Even without the emergence of Brood X, spring is the season of rebirth and renewal. An exciting link at the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Web site celebrates this age-old miracle: Cycles—African Life through Art. The wail of a newborn baby welcomes visitors when they enter and begin to explore the four sections—Ancestors, Youth, Adulthood and Leadership. An interactive map of Africa provides access to color images of artifacts from various regions of the continent and information about their creators and purposes in life-cycle rituals. A helpful glossary defines African terms, while an audio component allows visitors to hear their proper pronunciation. Educators and parents will want to check out the Teachers’ Resources link and its drop down menu that presents national and state standards in a number of disciplines. The stirring sound of African singing and drums provides a delightful backdrop to the entire experience.
