‘Hair in African Art and Culture’ at the IU Museum

The IU Art Museum in Bloomington will present a special exhibition, Hair in African Art and Culture, beginning Friday, May 24, and continuing through July 28. Divided into eight themes, the exhibition will consist of more than 60 objects and more than 60 photographs highlighting the beauty and meaning of hair in African art.

Originally organized by the Museum of African Art in New York City, the exhibition was curated by Frank Herreman, the museum’s director of exhibitions, and the late Roy Sieber, an emeritus professor of art history at IU. This was the last exhibition Sieber curated before his death last September.
