IU graduate student wins fiction award for minority writers

Shannon Gibney, a graduate student in the Creative Writing Program at IU Bloomington, has won the Hurston/Wright Award in Fiction from the Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation.

The $1,000 first prize is awarded to an emerging black college fiction writer. Since 1990, the foundation has given 30 awards to college writers of African descent.
