• For many years, IU Founders Day was celebrated on or close to Jan. 20, because that was the actual date of the university’s founding in 1820. But a January “Foundation Day,” as it was called through the early part of the 20th century, was moved to a date nearer springtime in 1925. • Founded in 1950, the IU Singing Hoosiers have entertained millions in 18 states and more than 26 countries.
